On a tractor with out live hydraulics you can only lift the implement when you have your foot off the clutch. A tractor with out live PTO will only send power to the PTO when your foot is off the clutch. The hydraulic pump and PTO receive power via through the same shaft as the transmission.

Tractors with Live hydraulics or PTO power the PTO and/or pump via a different arrangement. Some with live hydraulics attach the pump to the engine before the clutch achieving live hydraulics without live PTO. On live PTO tractors a two plated clutch is used so power can be disengage to the transmission with out disengaging the PTO, live hydraulics is also provided in this arrangement.

Hydrostatic drive tractors are different in that no clutch is needed hince they have live lift and PTO.

In these tractors when you press the clutch you disconnect the engine from the transmission also stoping

: I would like to know what the difference is between live pto and live hydralics? From what I read, having one or both is highly desirable. Thanks for some "expert" advice.
