At Diesel & Heavy Equipment Tech school, in the
60s, they advised using WASHING SODA to flush
engines. After draining anti-freeze, add about 1
cup of washing soda dissolved in a ice cream
pail of warm water. It"s a dry powder so it must
be dissolved first. Then add water to fill the
cooling system and run the engine to circulate.
Drain and flush a few times. it"s AMAZING the
crud that will flush out. Washing Soda is found
by detergents in the super market. It is made
by Arm and Hammer, and others, but IS NOT the
same as bicarbinate of soda.
