Sorry to hear. Had to put down one dog last year at 7.5 years. And I am looking at one right now that is not far behind. Took quite a while to only call for one dog not two, and get food ready etc. It was just habit.
Sometimes training a new dog helps, other times it makes you really miss the old dog!
Having to put one down never makes for a good day. Or weeks after for that matter.
