Most manifolds can be repaired, it just depends on the repair cost verses replacement cost. Usually most manifold repair is done incorrect causing it to further crack of disintigrate into carbon. Welding a manifold with an arc welder and nickle rods will only work on solid clean cast. On an old burnt manifold it will bubble and spew never taking hold properly and at the root of the weld it's very hard to machine. My advise is to use a gas torch, preheat the work after it's grooved and preped, use an Airgas Kastwell 111 filler rod with the proper cast flux with a slight carborising flame and you can repair manifolds most think are impossible. With this rod you are welding cast with cast instead of using disimular metals. This has been my experience with manifolds for what ever it's worth.
