I would think the application varies according to equipment in use and horsepower out put. Is the shaft on a pull piece of equipment, or 3 point? I did a Rube Goldberg adaption of a belt driven JD 300 series garden tractor rototiller to a pto 3pt Kubota 20hp tractor. The shaft is only 16" long, this gives me 8" of ground clearance w/ the tines, and a dig depth of 8", with 3" of square bar in the shaft.
