I think the reason small crawlers fell out of favor had to do with maintenance costs and transport speed. It can get expensive to keep up a set of tracks in sandy rocky soil. Also, many farmers had fields separated by miles of gravel road and a crawler would have to be trailered. You're not nuts. For 60 acres, you should be able to use whatever kind of tractor you like.
