Probably one of the most underrated tractors we had two on the big farm a 77 and 78 machine 12 speeds and 6 reverse was kind of unhandy versus the 16 speed 8 reverse 1486 when pulling a 16 row planter backing up in to corners. We had both dynoed before selling them bying new replacements the 77 was cranking 185hp at the pto and the 78 was cranking 175hp they were monsters using 20.8X38 bias tires. Two things one is when we sold them with 3800 and 3500 hours the new owners complained about rearend ovehauls due to brake shavings getting into the rearend and damaging gears and bearings which they were told by the IH dealer that was common for the planetary gear wet brake tractors IH made i.e. 1566, 1568 and 1586 after 3000hrs so beware other wise I think with radial tires and proper weights it can stay with the best of them. We pulled a 20' Brillion cultimulcher and IH presswheel drill with one and a 16 row 30" 7000 JD planter front fold with the other as far as a disc size for drilling wheat we worked the ground with a 30'IH disc. Hope this helps. CT
