We still use them on corn, you have to go slower, then we bale up the stalks, use to run a lot of sunflowers with them, and we used them on beans too. We run a regular corn head if there is snow on the ground. Didnt know they worked on self propel silage cutters, guess theres no reason they wouldn't. I think in the mid eighties JD actually made a 12 row version for the 8820, i think it got too wide though to work well in beans, and by then the flex heads were improved enough to reduce shattering and header loss it kind of slowed demeand for the all crops.
