Thanks for all the replies. Just to respond to the tips (I tried all of them), 1) there was not enough room to put the belt between the crankshaft pulley and the adapter assembly 2) I was able to get enough clearence to pull the shaft after separating the shaft at the Flexible Coupling Assemble and moving the pump out of the way. Even with the necessary clearence I was unable to get the shaft to release from the adapter assembly attached the the crankshaft pulley.
Rather then spend additional time on it I got a link belt from Grainger and installed it which was recommended in a couple of the replies.
