If people would use a little common sense AND know what they are doing you can do stuff like weld on oil tanks. I have cut the side out of an old fuel oil tank and I was kind of nervous the whole time but with a little knowledge of what your working with it's not too bad. It takes a higher temp for diesel to actually combust than gas so take a break every 2 feet and work your way around the tank. I would never get near an old gas tank with a grinder or welder or torch. I'm not recommending you cut any tank that ever had fuel in it.
