You need to stand your ground with insurance companies. My wife was in a fender bender once that was clearly the other driver's fault, and involved replacing a fender, header panel, and hood. I wrote my own estimate based on fixing it myself in my own shop with new parts. The other driver's insurance adjuster insisted I use used parts.
I told her, "This car was absolutely cherry. It didn't have a mark on it until this accident. If you beat the bushes and fine me some used parts of the same quality as the ones damaged in the accident, I'll use them". Two days later, I got a check in the mail for the full amount using new parts.
And hope to God the insurance company you're dealing with isn't State Farm.
