: : Just bought a JD "B". Flushed the cooling system and tranny oil first last month and about an hour ago I went to change the engine oil. As I loosened the oil drain plug, approx. 2 cups of antifreeze dripped out before it turned to oil. I am definitely upset.

: : Is this a major internal overhaul or is it normal leakage for this model tractor. I estimate it has been 100 hours since the last oil change. Is two cups antifreeze in 100 hrs no big deal? If I drain this antifreeze regularly, can I keep running the tractor?

: : I don't have the skills, time or tools to tear apart the motor. How much does something like this cost in hours and parts to fix? I plan on using it about 20 hours per year to cut fields.

: : I am not a heavy duty mechanic but I am religious about keeping my toys maintained, and so, this is will be a major bummer for me if it is serious.

: : Grateful for advice,

: : Mark

: Mark, suggest you drain oil (and filter if there is one),add fresh oil, then start your tractor and add Bars-Leak to the radiator. Let it run for at lease 1/2 hour and you may cure your leak. It sounds like a minor head gasket leak, but then I'm not a JD specialist. I did it with Ford 9N about a year ago and it stopped the leak.

Your problem could be very easy to fix as Wes says. But it could also be something major such as a cracked block. After doing the above fix, check your oil again and check for water under no circumstances run the tractor if you again find water in the oil. The water in the oil will destroy the bearings.
