My dad was an unemployment ins. claims examiner and always sneared at news reports of rising unemployment in the fall because it always rises as winter approaches and seasonal jobs begin to wind down. Didn't a lot of the trouble begin with ajustable rate mortgages which became unaffordable when rates were raised? Seems like it would have been smarter to hold the rates where they were so people could still make the payments rather than drive their payments too high. I never liked the idea of an adjustable rate. I'd find that hard to sleep with.
