The way I fixed a N series with a front mount distributor was to build a plastic plate to go where the coil mounted. In this plate I mounted a spark plug centered over the high tension contact. I removed the ground electrode from the plug and rigged a spring loaded contact. For the point connection, I used some brass all thread also with a spring loaded contact. This way any standard automotive coil could be used with the front mount distributor. This modification would work on the flathead V-8 also.
