Both machines are very reliable, do a great job - if set properly, and have top resale value. Deere had been experimenting with the rotary concept since the 1940's, but the concave/rasp bar machines seemed to work better under a variety of conditions. The drawback was limited capacity in the walker area. With the new round-up beans and bt corn, the stalks grew to be thick, strong, and more of a crop mat then the walker could handle for final cleaning. So, they had to go forward with the rotary and it has proved to be a big hit with farmers, so much so , that I believe Deere has now discontinued production of walker machines.
