If the furnace is in at the bottom (not side of bottom) then metalwork is necessary (with a slide in from the top filter opening) If it is already in from the side, then do it. If it is a high efficiency (more than about 85%) it will also need a condensation drain to a floor drain, or a condensation pump with a plastic hose to a sink drain/laundry tub. Good luck, JimN
