Jack a, I too hate to bring politics into it too, but politics causes these things, and the military has to fix them.
Once we decide, as a country, that we have a situation that requires the military, then we need to give them a mission, then stay the H**l out of the way.
The Military's job is to kill people and break all their sh*t. Plain and simple. Not necessarily good or nice, but sometimes it has to be done. Our soldiers are not peace keepers or community servants. Or should not be.
