I expect plenty of generators and regulators have been cooked by this polarizing bs.I started working on generators in the early 50s,never polarized a generator.When the generator charges enough the shunt coil pulls the cutout contacts shut.A heavy current from the battery will oppose the weaker voltage output of the generator if it happens to be of the wrong polarity.
