Fred: You relate two incidents; both with "switchable",as you stated,(diesel) engines. You ran from what I consider a very very good sound. Music to my ears indeed. A person does NOT have to get black smoke from switching as you saw. Shut off the gas and only then bring on the diesel. Very little smoke. Lots of rattle untill it warms up which to me is an enjoyable sound. You don't have to be scared of it (..if you would understand what is happening to make the smoke and sound.) No need to run. harvey
