Hey, I'm not trying to BS anybody, I just speaking from what I have seen from the many engines I have either serviced or rebuilt. I have worked on many engines that had bypass filter systems that only filter a small percentage of the oil circulated. This means that the bulk of the oil is going through the engine unfiltered. These in particular are the engines that a person can run into problems by switching the oils. As has been said, if the pan can be pulled and cleaned this will remove better than 90% of the sludge and you will most likely never have a problem, but as we all know, some tractors have solid frames under the engines which makes removing the oil pan impossible without pulling the engine. Its just plain safer to run a good quality non detergent oil in a engine that has always been run on ND oil to prevent a plugged screen or a burnt bearing. In the event that the engine is overhauled ,definately put detergent oil in and you won't have a sludge problem. Hope this clarifies my reasoning of my earlier message. Bill in Mich
