This is too good a story not to tell.
My wife and I have good friends who live in a small town about 20 miles north of here. In the interest of diplomacy, I'll call them Joe and Mary.
One evening a week or so ago, their neighbor lady called and told them there was a ground hog in their yard. Joe grabbed his shotgun and ran out of the house. The ground hog took one look at Joe and ran across the street into a trailer park. So here's Joe running through the trailer park with his 12 guage chasing a ground hog. (You can do this in a small town in Nebraska. People assume you know what you're doing even if it doesn't look like it.) Anyway, the ground hog got away, and Joe went home to eat supper.
After they'd eaten, Mary took the trash out and encountered the ground hog on their lawn. This time, the ground hog ran into their garage. A rather large detached garage, I might add. Mary simply closed the garage door and called for Joe. Joe went into the garage with his shotgun--and couldn't find the ground hog. About that time, Joe and Mary's daughter and son-in-law showed up. All four of them created enough commotion in the garage that the ground hog spooked from his hiding place and ran under the back of Mary's car. Whereupon Joe fired under the back of the car with the 12 guage. And missed the ground hog. While Mary was standing there with visions of all four of her tires going flat, the ground hog ran out into the open in front of the car and Joe nailed it with a second, but well placed, shot.
Apparently, everything survived intact except the ground hog.
Kinda reminds me of the time-----.......On second thought, I'll leave that one alone.
