Of course it will raise the back of your mower by approximately 1". Tire size is read by the diameter of the tire, then the width of the tire, and then the diameter of the rim. You said you wanted to change an 18-8.50x8 for a 20-10x8. This means that the diameter changes by 2" which will translate into a radiius change of 1" (the distance from the center of the axle to the outside of the tire). This should give you exactly the 1" height change you aare looking for. For what its worth, my JD tractor tells me to have the blade 1/2" higher at the front than the rear. This has to be measured on a flat surface like a garage floor. Remember that it is the blade, not the deck pan that you have to measure. I hope this helps a little.
