I suspect it's partly an excuse to brag about our new toys, and partly (at least for me) a tendency to second-guess ourselves after we've already committed. Silly, maybe, but harmless. Asking about prices on this board before OR after is pretty pointless too, as worth is in the eye of the beholder, and prices vary from region to region.
