like dwrk said, there are reasons other than asthetics to keep ditches mowed. mine are kept mowed as well as most of the farmers around me. our township mows maybe once a year. keeping the ditches mowed keeps the weeds down, less chance of them going to seed an spreading into the fields, it allows better drainage, easier to clean any debris from culverts. also fewer people do the drive by and dump garbage if the ditch is mowed, so there is a lot less junk to pick up.
