The term is more common in the milling business as a 'leg' is usually a slang term for a vertical lift elevator for grain, meal and other bulk commodities. The term 'jack' is for primary lift ie; a 'jackleg' is the elevator that lifts grains from a drag conveyor in an unloading pit to a drum magnet or scalper or both. Then the grain drops into a 'highleg' and is carried to the top of a mill building and dropped into either another drag conveyor or directly into a turnhead to be distributed to a perticular storage bin. Just depends on the part of the country your from.
