When you made the convertion did you change the coil to a 12 volt model of either internal resistor or external resistor. If you used the external type did you also install the resistor. If not the extra current a 12 volt bring has burnt up the points. Replace the point and be sure you have the correct coil and accessories if needed and you should not have any futher problems.
