Last year, lightening happened to strike my brand new subpanel for my shop. The subpanel was ungrounded and not wired to be live, but it was getting there. The lightening apparently traveled up the neutral wire and blew out every single light that was plugged into the other sheds receptacles that I was using to see in the shop.
Everything made a loud hum and then it popped. I did see the flash as the bolt hit the subpanel. It was roughly about 2 feet wide and just basically a sharp camera flash.
