A few days ago I had a weird thing happen to one of my layer hens. Never happened before. All of a sudden her legs became paralyzed for lack of a better description. She stopped laying but otherwise appeared OK. I checked; she was not egg-bound. She ate and drank by kind of crawling around. After a couple of days she stopped crawling and would just sit. She would still eat and drink if you brought food and water to her. Finally yesterday I sent her to hen heaven.
I asked the vet, he didn"t have any idea. My biggest concern is whether this is contagious. I had her isolated from the rest of the hens.
Has anyone seen anything like this? Do you know what it is? Any way to prevent it? Thanks in advance.
