If you need to remove rust from steel / iron use electrolysis... All you really need to do this is a car battery charger and ARM & HAMMER Super Washing Soda (sodium carbonate). You should be able to find this product with the other laundry detergents. I know Cub Foods stocks this product, that's where I bought my last box from.

One thing I should advise is never use a stainless steel electrode. The problem with using stainless steel is it contains chromium. As the electrodes are consumed you end up with poisonous chromates in your electrolyte. Dumping these on the ground or down the drain is illegal, and repeated exposure to these compounds will give you cancer.
