A super MD would be a 12volt but it would have a regulator. There should be 3 positions on the light ODB Off Dim Bright. Unless it has a LHDB Low charge High Charge Dim Bright 4 position Switch (which it should not). So it needs a regulator with three (or 4) posts Gen---Field----Bat---and if equipped L (which stands for load and is often connected to the light switch fused input terminal. Nothing to do with regulation, it just supplies charging voltage to the lights.
If it has a for position, it is not standard on that year. JimN
