We have gas and diesel tractors, and diesels are nothing to be intimidated by. The injection pumps are expensive to work on, but most everything else is easier to deal with than a gas tractor. No fouled plugs, no gummed up carburetors from sitting up, no sticking floats, the fuel won't go bad, etc... I'm not trying to knock gas tractors, but diesels are more forgiving once you get them right. On a cold day, though, the heat off of a gas motor is nice. The diesels don't seem to keep you as warm.
