You say you lived in the country all your life but don't say you ever farmed. I live on a Centennial farm and am the fifth generation, traced on my mothers side. My father was a farmer as was his father and his. My mother still lives on a centennial farm also. So I have farming on both sides. I continue to farm. With over 100 years of farm background I think I know some about being a good steward of the land too.
I use almost daily a MF265, MF175, JD 620, and a Farmall M. I also have and use a JD4020, JD2550, JD4320, and a JD 4430. I drive a 96 F250 Diesel, 78 Pinto, and a 2001 Taurus.
I grow my own beef, and grow as much as I can in the garden. I burn wood for heat, mostly already dead trees. And try not to use the AC so much.
I shoot rabbits, woodchuck, possum, and muskrat as needed for population control. Do I think they should all be killed NO. (Well not so sure about the woodchucks.) But they do need to be controlled. If they didn't need to be controlled I'm sure the DNR wouldn't issue licenses.

But, on the other hand, there is a secret language that our mechanical companions readily do speak. It is an interesting form of communication that involves all the senses of the listener. In this series we are going to investigate and learn the basic rudimentary skills of understanding this lingo.
