I have a few years when the hay was a bit on the questionable side..but...the cattle loved it and when I fed from both ends of the loft, there was always a commotion at the feeder where the salted hay was placed, cows would be shoving each other to get at the slated hay while the other end of the feeder was quiet...they do like it salted...you don't salt till you have a layer of bales on the floor so rusting floor nails doesn't happen, theres nothing else in the barn it comes in contact with to rust anything so the rust issue is a moot point.
