However he should have notified you that the free deal was ending. To prevent a big hassle, I would offer to pay for the mowing and ask the developer if you can retain the past arrangement. A good alternative would be to let this farmer have only the first cutting and then renew the prior arrangement and remind the developer every spring. Otherwise if I was the developer and the parties got into a big donnybrook over the hay, no one would harvest it.
