Not filing insert bearing shells refers to the non-shimmed type of connecting rod referred to in the previous post. Modern engines do not have shims and will have a slight protrusion of the bearing shell beyond the cap or rod; this is designed by the engineers to force the bearing into the rod/cap combination snugly so the insert cannot move while in service. I agree that with a shim-type bearing some filing may be needed. This is an example where there needs to be more information about the style of machinery & parts before suggested remedies are offered. Myself included!
