Our "auto hookup" was a 4 foot long drawbar pin with a 90% bent hook in the end. You would grab the hook , pull the pin out of the draw bar, drive away from one wagon, back up to the next, turn the pin over , reach down with the hook, lift the tounge of the wagon onto the drawbar then reverse the pin and pin the hitch and away you would go. Sound way more complex than it was but it saved climbing on and off the tractors MANY times.
