My 12 year old nephew is in town visiting his grandparents. He loves to go fishing but since he lives in Vegas; and my sister is divorced he really does not get to go often. My dad has been trying to take him as often as he can but since he is so old this has been limited to bank fishing only. So I put the honey do list on hold for the weekend and took him and my dad out in the boat twice. Once Saturday morning and again Sunday morning.
We all had fun but I just know I made this boys day. Brought back many memories of when my now grown sons and I would go fishing together. You should have seen this boys face when he would hook a fish and the pole would bend in half. Several got away from a broken line because he is not use to playing large fish to try and wear them out before reeling them in. After allowing him to use my pole with 40 lb test line he did much better. I would say we caught at least 20 black drum in the 20” to 35” range over the weekend.
I think the hardest part was trying to explain to this boy that we could only eat 2 or 3 fish so it was best to release any others we caught to live another day. You could tell he was just heart broken when he had to release some of the largest fish he has every caught.
I will remember these fishing trips for a while because I made a young boys day. So take the time to take a boy fishing because like the song says....... You're going to miss this
