Dad and I both have Smith torches on our service trucks as well as in our shops. I know Dad"s torch is at least 30 years old and mine probably aren"t too far behind. As far as age and obsolesence of parts the old Smiths we"ve got and the newer ones haven"t changed that much, if at all, in alot of years. They found a good design and they stick with it. We keep a spare valve/handle on the shelf so when one gives trouble in use(usually the valves will start leaking around the packing) it gets put in service while the other gets taken to a local repair shop for service. They always come back as good as new for a fraction of the cost of a completely new set.
