Jump boxes and jumper cables will usually not carry enough current through the clamp ends to work effectively. Are you running 12 v or 6 ? really doesn't matter at this point , but 6 V is more touchy about cable size , and when hooking the jump box on was the battery also hooked up ? or just jumping at starter only with no battery help ? If you have a bad battery it can drain power away from your jumping attempts.
