From IH I believe the diesel 460, 560 and 660's came with two 6V batteries wired in series to create 12 volts...
On my 560D I have two 12 volt batteries wired in parallel to maintain 12 volts but give me plenty of CCA after holding that glow plug button in for 60 seconds or so...
BIG battery cables go a long way in getting her to spin over quickly also...
