The Helicoil or thread insert he is talking about doesn't use a smaller bolt but is a thread insert repair to use the same size bolt. You drill out the stripped hole larger with proper size drill for the special size tap cutting threads for the thread insert bushing that puts new threads back in the hole of same size. Is the sprocket pinned or keyed somehow? It may need to be so doesn't tear the threads out again later. Also there are other brands of thread repair inserts out there too.
