My beds, so far, are just "dumped there." I don't have good soil where I have a lot of sun, so I built them by putting a big old mound of manure in the middle, and taking soil I had screened the year before and shoveling over the top :)
I was considering making a nice looking raised bed to grown daylillies in that I wanted to look nice. Cheapest material I could find was used brick on Craigslist for 10 cents a piece. I wanted that bed fairly high, about 18-24". Figured roughly 12' x 28" x 6 bricks high = 204 bricks, or $20.40.
