Won't affect the mag. If I had to guess I would say it still has the 6V starter(which will work fine on 12V). Your main concern would be the charging system. Your cutout/regulator and generator or alternator is voltage specific. An alternator is not "original" so you would have to change to a generator anyway. If it's a 12V generator, it can be converted to a 6V. Could be the original 6V gen, as I have seen many that have a 12V battery but owner didn't bother to change anything else, but it does warrant checking. Good luck.
