There is a tight oil market for many reasons, but not enough to explain the current prices. The biggest reason prices are going up is that there are billions of dollars sitting in retirement accounts looking for a place to go. The mortgage backed money market soaked up billions of those dollars until the melt down. The managers are dumping that money in commodities because they think it will bring a better return and be safer than the money markets.
Once the prices start to slip, they will fall quickly as all the money managers race not to be last out of the market. Bubbles pop.
