The WWII generation didn't talk about the war. They never considered themselves heroes. My dad turns 90 on Father's Day--didn't see much action, spent most of the time in the Phillipins. Those that came home, came home to a greatful nation.
The VietNam vets came home to nothing but scorn and ridicule. The first thing I did, the day after I got home, was burn my uniform and campaign ribbons. I was 21 and my faith in government had been shatttered.
Now that I'm much older, and hopefully wiser, I can't get through our nation's songs in church any more without choking up. In spite of all our faults and bickering, it's still the greatest country in the world. Don't forget our vets and what they paid so we have the freedom we enjoy today. Thanks to all of you who served.
