My son has been running hydraulic oil in his 96 Dodge Cummins for the past year and a half. He got pretty aggressive with it last week. Straight oil. It started ok but missed on a couple of cylinders for a minute till it warmed up and then it smoothed out and ran just fine. Usually he runs probably 5 gallons of diesel to a tank of oil, more in the winter. At $4.50 a gallon for fuel, he says if he needs to replace the pump, he has more than paid for a new one with what he has saved. The truck has 350,000 miles on it and never been open.
