Hello blue 1:Check the battery for the proper voltage post to battery post 12.6V @ 70 Degrees F. 2: While some one is trying to start the engine check the voltage at the battery.It should drop with the load but not below 9.6V at 70degrees F. 2: Check for the same reading at both battery clamps. 3: While someone trying to crank the engine, check for voltage at the solenoid side of the starter. 4: Check for voltage at the starter's battery cable. 5: Check the voltage at the starter stud. Any volt meter you have will be fine. If the battery drops below t 9.6V listen for starter noise or growl. If the brushes or commutator are bad it may drag the battery down below the 9.6v even if it is a good battery. You can touch the cable going to the starter, and if it gets hot you may have a bad starter. Do the checks one step at the time. All of these checks is for an engine that is not cranking.
