That has always baffled me also, as a life long resident. I can tell you though somewhere out in the Mobile/Tensaw Delta is an area named Bay Minette. I suspect the city of Bay Minette carried the name due to settlers/explorers staying that far inland. Our area was occupied by the Spanish, French, English, and I suspect the name was an odd ball hold out. If you came through Spanish Fort you were just north of me, and traveled the same route from Andalusia that my 479 Haybine, and Miller Tilt Top did. That area is nice country, and I figured you came through that way. Some of the best people in the world line those highways-we blew a tire on the trailer carrying the haybine, and it seemed everybody stopped to help. Glad you had a safe trip. By the way, what you saw around Spanish Fort is all new, our area has exploded in five years.
