As previously stated. It does sound like a bad case of "status", interest payments, and no concept of "delayed gratification".
I"m stunned at the people "starting out" expect to have the same home, vehicles, recreational equipment it took their parents 30 years to acquire.
We both do okay working for the power utility. It does involves trades, technical skills and pages of qualifications. And no resemblance of a 9-5, Mon-Fri 40hr week.
The work is off a mobile platform on the face of a nuclear reactor in a protective suit. Or in a rubber area, contamination tent etc.
A good portion of the bucks comes from overtime on weekends and night shifts. While those gov"t workers have the weekend off or are sleeping.
It still bugs me though. That 120,000 is not three times the cash in the pocket that a 40,000 income is. After taxes and deductions it"s twice the take home of a 40,000 income.
As of last Thursday the pricks have taken $29,000 off this years paycheques. To pay for these gov"t "workers", welfare handouts, do gooder projects, political correctness and maybe 1/3 of those tax dollars into running real useable services.
Now there is a feeling of frustration. Do what it takes to make the extra bucks. And then get penalized with a higher tax rate for your efforts.
Do less, have more b*stard children and get a larger welfare cheque?
The average person doesn"t know how make $$$. They think in order to get "rich" you have to steal, sue, inherit or win the lottery.
Did the generations who worked so hard to build post WWII US/Canada end up spoiling their children. And we are reaping the effects now?

Today's Featured Article - Show Coverage: Godfrey, Illinois Country Days - by Cindy Ladage. Except for last fourth of July's Old Gold show in Springfield, Illinois, I don't remember when it was so hot. Nevertheless, the heat didn't keep vendors and visitors alike from enjoying the third annual Country Day's Event. Jane Elliott said the event was originally a one man show. "Barry Seiler, owner of Country Town Farm Supply store used to invite people up to the Johne Deere store. He would give hats and a free meal for everyone that brings a tractor." Elliott said while this ... [Read Article]
