That's what I thought, and as has been mentioned, when I saw what was in the field, I saw some other non oat/non weed type sprouts coming up, and thought I did see other type of seed, who knows, but the oats are coming up I'll have to ask him if I can get him on the phone. I am really curious as to what his game plan is, he's the farmers farmer, as defined in Websters, or should be, 50+ years worth, he's forgotten more than I'll ever know about this.
My observation is with all that seed on top, not sure what is under, would he have been better off drilling then underseeding or vice versa or some combination there of with some type of implement or combination of ? This field will produce, if that seed was under, less bird pilfering, more germination, would be a thick stand of oats followed by whatever is next, the soil holds moisture even in the driest of years, bottom field in a valley.
